Another Post

This is what David said hoping playing in the World Cup

The Los Angeles Galaxy star is now 33 and knows there are question marks over whether he is still good enough to pull on the Three Lions, but said: "People will always question whether I can still play at this level but I want to carry on. I am not ready to stop playing for my country. I have a few more wrinkles now - but I still feel I can do what I did 10 years ago."
He added: "I was happy with my performance against France in March, my first game under Fabio Capello, and it was the same against the United States the other night. I was happy to set up the opening goal.
"When you have worked on things during the week, like where the players have to run and where I have to put the ball, and it comes off in a game, it makes you happy.
"People have always talked about my set pieces and what I can bring to the team. I can bring a lot more to the team than set pieces but it is one of my strongest things that I can do in the game.
"There is always a chance if I get a set piece that I'll put it in the right place for someone to score."
"The manager has said if I stay fit and I am performing, then I've got a chance to be in the squad and that's all I can ask for.
"At the moment I am taking each game as it comes - and who knows what is around the corner? But I've played in three World Cups and I know how much it means to the country so I would love to still be playing in 2010 and be at the World Cup in South Africa."

The Telegraph is reporting that Capello's considering giving David the captain's armband for today's friendly.
David Beckham has emerged as the surprise contender to captain England in tomorrow night's friendly against Trinidad and Tobago.
England head coach Fabio Capello was widely expected to hand the armband to Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry for the final match of the season but is thought to be contemplating making the LA Galaxy his leader in the Port-of-Spain.

Finded

Landon Donovan came out in defence of Beckham and against Adrian Serioux's now-infamous tackle on Becks, and the comments that Serioux made during the match and before it. Turns out Serioux made threatening comments against David to English papers back in February 2007. MLS is not amused; for the tackle they fined him $250. For the comments they fined him $1000. It sounds like small amounts when you consider the fines often levied in other leagues, but MLS pays its players very poorly, so it may sting.

Landon Donovan wasn't impressed with Canadian Adrian Serioux's controversial tackle on David Beckham two weeks ago, and cared even less for what the FC Dallas defender had to say about it.

That's why the American international and Los Angeles Galaxy star was pleased that Major League Soccer fined the Toronto native US$1,000 Friday in addition to the automatic $250 penalty that accompanies a red card.

MLS commissioner Don Garber said the discipline resulted from threats against Beckham made by Serioux to England's Sun newspaper back in February 2007 as well as the tackle itself, and Donovan believes the punishment is well deserved.

"Any player that makes a challenge like that should be reprimanded for sure," he said as the Galaxy finished practice for Saturday's contest at Toronto FC.

"If you're dumb enough to say something that stupid about arguably the most important player in the league, then absolutely you deserve to be fined for it. Hopefully he learns his lesson
